ok February

It has been a day, a week, a series of weeks, a past few months.  Winter break plans fell through and note to self- always have a backup to the backup plan.  Three weeks of constantly being on left me exhausted and depleted.  January didn't feel new and shiny and that feeling of a fresh start never entered the building.  Too busy, too much to do, too much to keep track of.

I know that breathing comes naturally to us as living beings, but do we hold our breath during the crazy twists and turns on those extreme roller coasters?  I'm not going to google that question to find out.  But I will say that it has felt like I haven't taken a proper breath in a long time courtesy of this metaphorical roller coaster.

Recently I sat down with my 2019 calendar- it's a 13-month one- so that I could transfer some stuff into my 2020 one, and one of the bits of writing that I didn't want to lose track of was my loose outline of the year.  This outline has stuff like:

~ Finding a preschool for my daughter, but first potty training (boo hiss!).
~Feeding group for my son.
~TAXES!!  Back to filing them yourself, E.

And then...

~My SO is on the job hunt.  Where will he end up? Will probably need a 2nd car?
~What's going to be in my son's IEP this spring?
~Time to get back into an exercise routine.  Couch to 5k? Cardio step workouts?
~Do I have appropriate yarn in my stash to knit NICU baby hats?

And on and on.  I'm sure we all have these kinds of lists that ebb and flow between the life changing and the not- so- serious. However,  instead of feeling organized I felt unsettled after getting it out of my head and writing it all down.  Alas, or perhaps fortunately, I can only tackle each item one at a time, including the job hunt stuff because, yes, my SO roped me into helping him with that. And hello, boundaries!

Breathe.  Lest I crumble under the weight of responsibility, and an energetic toddler dropping her nap,  I have been quite pleased to stumble across a Sunday treat that requires nothing from me except to sit with my knitting and be entertained.

Enter Sanditon, an adaptation of an unfinished Jane Austen "novel" that has been completed by other authors.  No spoilers but what we consider modern themes, but most assuredly are not, have been included in this series.  The production is indulgent and racy-  lush costumes and set designs, some questionable relationships, a few bare backsides, and a buff chest.  This is a delightful escape.  Soapy.  Just what I need. Don't need to think.

Take an hour for yourself to do something silly and indulgent- you're worth it.
